Chicago, Chicago

Friday, December 14, 2007

Steve “Reno” Reed and Director of Advancement, Perry Babcock, recently traveled to Chicago to host an alumni event at Entourage on American. Located in Schaumburg, just outside of Chicago, Entourage is a restaurant that was built by Triumph Construction, which is owned and operated by Russ Scurto '00. Russ and his parents Russ and Tracy Scurto were the co-hosts for this event.

As always the class of 1987 was well represented. Chris Jensen, Fred Wolner, Roger Sykes and Bob Otto showed up to debate the claim that the class of 1987 had the best boys' ice hockey team at Northwood School, ever. This issue will not be settled soon, but look for more discussion on the topic in the next edition of Reflections magazine. Former Board member Gregg Heineman ‘80 attended as did Courtney Suders '99, and current parents Richard and Catherine LaVeau. Gregg continues to run the family business and Courtney works for the parks department on programs for children with special needs. Reno and Perry also welcomed prospective parents George and Kerry Arnold as well as the grandparents of Rich LaVeau ‘08. There was a great deal of conversation about Northwood hockey, past, present and future. But the highlight of the evening was the announcement that Russ Scurto '00 was engaged to be married to Jessica Nieminski September 6, 2008! Jessica was beaming as were proud in-laws to be Russ and Tracy Scurto. Mark Switaj '77 was a healthy scratch after entertaining Reno and Perry the night before at the Chicago Blackhawks game.

Everyone agreed that Northwood School should be visiting Chicago regularly and given the popularity of ice hockey in the windy city it seems likely that we will!  Click here to view pictures of this event.
