What is the Annual Fund and Why Should I Contribute?
The Annual Fund is the most common kind of giving to Northwood School. The Annual Fund provides unrestricted, critical resources that support the essentials of a quality program such as: faculty professional development, small classes, technology upgrades, and classroom equipment. Annual Fund gifts help to cover the cost of a Northwood education, a gap of about $4,000 per student. Essentially, the Annual Fund accounts for a great percentage of the annual operating budget of the school. In a very real sense, Annual Giving allows Northwood to do things that set the School apart from other institutions.
Why doesn’t Northwood just raise tuition to make up the gap?
In order to cover all educational costs, Northwood would have to dramatically increase tuition on an annual basis. This increase would essentially exclude many families and qualified students from the community who help make Northwood the school that it is. Every family ultimately benefits from a successful Annual Fund program.
Who Contributes to the Annual Fund?
All current and past parents, alumni, grandparents, friends, and corporate matching gift companies are encouraged to contribute to the Annual Fund each year. Northwood values the inclusive nature of its community and participation in the Annual Fund is an important priority. The Annual Fund runs from July 1 through June 30.
What is so important about participation in the Annual Fund?
Participating in the Annual Fund is vital to Northwood School when we apply for foundation grants and funding for special projects. These organizations often base their philanthropic decisions on the strength of consistent support. They want to see that Northwood believes in itself and its mission, and that its constituents are committed to the school’s long-term well-being.
How Much should I give?
Every dollar to the Annual Fund counts; all gifts at every level make an impact on our students. Contributions range in size from $5 to $25,000 and above, and therefore, there is no "right” amount. We hope that the Northwood community will participate at a level appropriate for their circumstances.
