Northwood School welcomes international students. Our Student body is comprised of 175 students from 24 states and 15 countries. Nearly 33% of the student body is made up of international students. Northwood has strong support for international students both in and out of the classroom which allows them to make a comfortable transition to American boarding school life. The international students at Northwood are very active in every part of school life. All members of our community participate in sports, social activities, and other extracurricular offerings.
This year our international student body consists of students from Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, England, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, The Netherlands, and Vietnam.
English as a second language (ESL) at Northwood School plays a vital role in the success of our international students.
ESL is offered to those students whose citizenship or residence is non-American. All new international students are tested upon their arrival to determine their placement in ESL I-III. Emphasis is placed on the development of each student’s speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Along with academic support, TOEFL and SAT preparation is offered to juniors and seniors who aim to improve test scores related to the university application process.
